GIS in the cloud refers to the use of Internet services for data collection, analysis and publication in the form of a map. The concept is very broad ranging from the simplest functions of visualization of thematic geographic information to advanced features of editing, publishing base maps and geoprocessing (geocoding, routing, prediction, spatial relations, etc.).
GIS in the cloud has also opened the possibility of significantly improving the effectiveness of the professionals in the development of applications and provide services of visualization and analysis of the geographic information to a greater number of users around the world. This is calling into question the traditional use of GIS, in view of the wide range of possibilities and better performance offered by this new paradigm.
From concrete real cases, in this webinar we will see what are the conditions or requirements related to GIS that advise to use solutions in the cloud and what advantages they offer against more traditional approaches.
Jorge Sanz is Solution Engineer and Support Team Coordinator at CARTO and Tutor of the module GIS Cloud of the Professional Master in GIS of UNIGIS Girona.
