> Ramiro Aznar (Planet): Analysis of satellite images with Python notebooks

Planet is the company with the largest constellation of Earth Observation satellites. From the tiny Doves that monitor Earth 24-7, to the SkySat taking high precision photos on demand. To maintain this continuous flow of images, it has built a complex technical system developed by great professionals. From APIs for searching and downloading data to interfaces to explore and monitor orders.
Objective: The webinar will present Planet as a provider of satellite images and will teach step by step how to use Python notebooks in combination with Planet libraries and other image processing libraries to obtain a vegetation index (NDVI).
Bio: Ramiro Aznar was initially trained as a biologist at the UCM and later completed his postgraduate studies obtaining a Master in Urban Sustainability at the University of Reading. Over the years, he got closer and closer to GIS programming and the world of data visualization until he ended up working as a Support and Solutions Engineer at CARTO where he supported users, customers and partners to develop and fix GIS applications and create web maps. At the same time, he has been one of the main organizers of Geoinquietos in Madrid, carrying out workshops and talks related to open geospatial technologies and applications. He currently works as a Support Engineer for Planet in Berlin where he helps analysing and visualizing the huge amount of data, generated daily by a large constellation of satellites.

> Josep Sitjar (University of Girona): How to access Sentinel satellite images

The Copernicus program of the European Space Agency, through Sentinel satellites, generates a large number of images of the entire planet every day. Knowing the main tools to access this data is essential to start working with them. In this webinar we will explain how to use the Open Hub portal and its API or the QGIS SCP plugin.
Objective: The webinar will show some of the main tools to download and obtain Sentinel images. It will show how to use the Open Access Hub portal and its API to automate the image download process. Finally, it will show how to use the QGIS SCP plugin to download Sentinel images and integrate them into a GIS project.
Bio: Josep Sitjar is a geographer and holds a master in environment, analysis and territory management. He works in the GIS and Remote Sensing Service (SIGTE) at the University of Girona as a GIS analyst and web map application developer. He teaches the modules of GIS and remote sensing and programming of web applications map II of the Professional Master in GIS – UNIGIS Girona. Since 2017 he coordinates the Jornadas de SIG Libre.
